The advantages of a four-point seat belt are that they distribute the crash forces over more of the chest which reduces the pressure on the ribcage, heart and lungs. They also help hold the occupant in place during crashes that put limitations in today's belt designs.

De façon générale, on voit la ceinture de sécurité à quatre points en forme de «V» sur le marché mais il existe aussi un modèle en «X». Selon certains sondages effectués auprès d'automobilistes, la ceinture en «V» serait beaucoup plus confortable, ce qui expliquerait sa popularité.
